Subrogation & Recovery Workflow

The Meridian Subrogration Procedure

Meridian's recovery procedures have proven to be an effective and efficient subrogation process from receipt of data until case closure. The following is a brief description of our subrogation process.

Identification of Potential Claim
The subrogation process starts with a transfer of paid claims data from our clients. This can be accomplished in many ways, but is done most efficiently through the receipt of claims tapes or electronic data transfer. Once the information is received, the detection process identifies all potential accident related injury claims, checks for duplicate claims and current cases, and tallies claim dollars on related cases. A series of questionnaires are then used to gather information from the injured plan member. If a response is not received, our customer service staff will follow up with a personal telephone call to request the information. With Meridian's easy-to-understand questionnaire and convenient toll-free customer service line, the need for follow-up is minimal.

Research/Investigation Procedures
Our staff reviews all responses to determine third party liability. Meridian's investigators use their expertise to accumulate all facts surrounding the loss. After the accident is thoroughly investigated, the third party insurance carrier, plan member, and the attorney are notified of the subrogation claim.

Follow-up Process
Claim files are reviewed and updated on a scheduled basis or when action is needed. At review, contact is made with the third party insurance carrier and attorneys, to gather information and to provide updates on claim file balances. Automatic reporting effectively alerts staff to review cases and gives vital information relevant to their case inventory and performance.

Reports
We understand the need for prompt and accurate reporting. You will receive reports on a regular basis, which may be used for underwriting, financial and operational purposes. Reports will be provided in a frequency and format tailored to meet your individual needs.

Settlement Process
Settlements are skillfully negotiated by our experienced staff who rely on current federal and state laws to obtain the highest possible recovery. When necessary, Meridian's nationwide network of attorneys is available to represent our clients in litigation or to negotiate a settlement. Meridian also offers electronic transfer of funds upon settlement to get our clients their money quickly and efficiently.

Meridian's experienced staff and efficient processing systems allow for quick identification of cases, thorough investigation and skillfully negotiated settlements. The result is a reduction in the cost of providing health care for employees and their dependents..
